Juan Sebastian Ortiz Colmenares

Born in Bogotá, Sebastian is an undergrad student of the University of Los Andes, whose majors are Chemistry and Microbiology. His thesis project aims to study a novel variant of the Bischler-Napieralski reaction.

Sebastian also enjoys rollerblading and is interested in Science divulgation and education

Paula Andrea Molina Murcia

Paula Andrea Molina

Paula was born in Bogotá-Colombia in 1997. She initiated her studies at Universidad de los Andes in 2014 in the Chemistry program and in 2016, in the Industrial Engineering curriculum. Along with her studies, she consecrates her free time playing piano. As a final year student, she took part in Dr. Diego Gamba’s research group to study the intramolecular Heck reaction to obtain Benzo[c]oxepin-1(3H)ones.

Santiago Tijaro Bulla

Santiago has a major in microbiology and he is currently finishing his second major in chemistry.  He is interested in many research areas and he has been involved in several projects related with biophysics, synthetic biology, bioinorganic chemistry and phytopathology. In ISOBOC He will be working in his thesis project with radical reactions between thiols and terminal alkenes. He loves Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

B.Sc Laura Adarve Cardona

She was born in Medellín (Antioquia) in 1993. She studied Chemistry at the Universidad de Antioquia obtaining her B.Sc in 2017. Laura’s undergraduate work involved investigations related to the “Síntesis de diarilheptanoides tipo alnustona de importancia biosintética” at the research group Síntesis y Biosíntesis de Metabolitos Naturales (SIN-BIO-ME-NA) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Felipe Otálvaro. Currently, Laura has joined to Dr. Diego Gamba's research group at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá to start her Master studies in Chemistry.

Dra. Paola Andrea Acosta Guzman

Paola was born in Cali-Colombia in 1988, she obtained her bachelor in Chemistry at Universidad el Valle at Cali in 2010. Then she did a PhD in Chemical Sciences at the same University under the supervision of Dr. Jairo Quiroga Puello, her PhD thesis was focus on the Synthesis oriented to the diversity of new nitrogenous heterocyclic compounds with potential biological activity by cyclization and cyclocondensation from 5-aminopyrazoles. In 2017 she started a post-doct at Universidad de los Andes with Dr. Diego Gamba.

About Us

Our aim is to develop new organic transformations and applying them in the total synthesis of natural products. The choice of the target molecules is made based on its biological activity; the synthesis of the natural occurring molecules is complemented with the synthesis of structural analogues oriented to improve their biological properties.
