Dr Diego Gamba

Diego Gamba was born in Bogota in 1981. He obtained his B.Sc from Universidad Nacional de Colombia – Bogotá in 2004, and then he went to Poitiers-France where he obtained a master degree in biomolecules, organic synthesis and catalysis. His master thesis was focus on the development of a new tandem reaction ring closing/fluorination of allylamines in superacid medium and supervised by Dr. Sebastien Thibaudeau. Then he moved to the Ecole Polytechnique-Palaiseau and joined the group of Dr. Joëlle Prunet where he finished his Ph.D working on diastereoselective synthesis of 1,3-diols and Pummerer reaction oriented to the synthesis of nucleoside analogues. In 2010 He went to Munich to work with Prof. Thorsten Bach in the synthesis of Briarellin J. Then Diego moved back to Colombia and joined the Chemistry Department of the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá where he started his independent carrier as head of the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, Bio and Organocatalysis. In 2014 he was promoted to Associate Professor. His research interests are total synthesis of natural products and the development of new organic transformations using biological and organic catalyst. Complete list of publications.

About Us

Our aim is to develop new organic transformations and applying them in the total synthesis of natural products. The choice of the target molecules is made based on its biological activity; the synthesis of the natural occurring molecules is complemented with the synthesis of structural analogues oriented to improve their biological properties.
