B.Sc Paula Andrea Guerrero Muñoz

Paula was born in Bogotá-Colombia in 1995. She began her bachelor studies at los Andes University in 2012 and finished it in 2016. As an undergraduate student, she studied physicochemical properties of macrocycles in solution to understand solute-solute and solute-solvent interactions. She will do her master’s studies under the supervision of Dr. Diego Gamba Sánchez in his research group at los Andes University.

M Sc Jorge Emilio Parra

Jorge Emilio Parra Amin

Jorge obtained his Bachelor degree in Chemistry at Universidad Distrital in Bogotá, then he obtained his Master degree with honors in Natural Products Chemistry at Universidad Nacional de Colombia - Bogotá in the group "Estudio Químico y de Actividad Biológica de Rutaceae y Myristicaceae Colombianas", at the “Laboratorio de Productos Naturales Vegetales”. After that, he started his PhD in the same group, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Luis Enrique Cuca Suárez, studying the chemistry of vegetal Colombian species of the genus Piper (Piperaceae), obtaining two new compounds active against phytopathogenic fungi that attack crops of Colombian tropical fruit, and two scientific articles in Phytochemistry Letters.

In January 2016 he joined the group of Dr. Diego Gamba Sánchez at Universidad de los Andes as visiting PhD student, He is working on the the synthesis of analogs of the isolated active compounds from species of the genus Piper in search of improving biological activity.

He has also worked for four years as a chemistry teacher in different universities such us: Universidad Manuela Beltrán, U. De Cundinamarca, U. Militar Nueva Granada, U. Jorge Tadeo Lozano and U. De Ciencias Aplicadas and Ambientales (U.D.C.A.).

B.Sc Nathaly Wilches Vacca

Nathaly was born in Bogotá D.C in 1996. She started her studies at Universidad de los Andes in 2013. As a final year student in the Chemistry program, she join Dr Diego Gamba´s research group in order to study Antimycin synthesis, and obtain her bachelor degree in Chemistry.

Andrés Ricardo Gomez Angel

Andres was born in Neiva, Huila in 1994. In 2011 he began his chemistry and chemical engineering bachelor studies at los Andes University. During his studies he has worked in a research project for the synthesis of new catalysts for obtaining polymers usable in the production of biodegradable food packaging. He joined Dr. Gamba's group in order to work in his graduation project in the development of a new methodology involving the Pummerer reaction with enolate type nucleophiles. His hobbies include playing tenor saxophone and building and repairing computers for friends and family.

B.Sc. Juan Manuel Rueda

Juan Manuel was born in Bogotá 1995. In 2011 he began his chemistry bachelor studies at los Andes University. He obtained his bachelor degree in chemistry in 2015, after working in the synthesis and characterization of new coordination complexes of copper (II) with potential application in selective detection of dopamine. He joined the team of Dr. Gamba and he is working in the application of the Pummerer reaction in the synthesis of azoles. His research interest are the application of coordination complexes as catalyst in organic synthesis and the development of new methodologies which are applicable in total synthesis. In his free time he likes to read, going to camping and riding his bike.

About Us

Our aim is to develop new organic transformations and applying them in the total synthesis of natural products. The choice of the target molecules is made based on its biological activity; the synthesis of the natural occurring molecules is complemented with the synthesis of structural analogues oriented to improve their biological properties.
